What HB 89 Requires of Your Practice Starting July 1:
To be fully compliant with the new Florida law, veterinary clinics must implement both of the following measures:
- Hang Mandatory Signage: A physical sign detailing prescription options must be displayed clearly near your clinic’s checkout area.
- Obtain Client Acknowledgment: You or an authorized team member must obtain a signed acknowledgment of these prescription options from clients (typically kept on file or integrated into your client intake forms).
These requirements do not apply in emergency situations where immediate medication is necessary to prevent suffering or save an animal’s life, or to certain restricted controlled substances.
