About the program

According to the NOAA, since 1980, 94 weather events in Florida resulted in damages exceeding $1 BILLION per event. In each of these scenarios were instances of destroyed clinics, shelters, and displaced and/or injured animals. Our disaster relief grants are here to serve the community in these difficult times of need.

To help combat the devastation caused by natural disasters, we offer grants of $2,500 per applicant. In some cases, an applicant may receive more than this amount. Veterinarians impacted by hurricanes, floods, or wildfires are eligible to apply for funding.

Funding for this program is dependent on what we secure from the vet med sector. We hope you consider a donation so that when disaster strikes, we’ll be ready.

Timeline/Deadline

Applications open when a natural disaster occurs. The application portal will stay open for two months, and all submissions must be received during that time.

Eligibility

• Must be an actively licensed veterinarian at the time of disaster. Preference may be given to FVMA members in cases of equal need, but all Florida veterinarians affected by the disaster are eligible to apply and receive funds.
• The clinic must be located in the afflicted disaster areas, or the veterinarians must be able to prove they provided veterinary medical care for animals in disaster areas.
• Grants are awarded per veterinarian. If a clinic has multiple veterinarians, they may all apply, but subsequent applications from one clinic may be given diminished consideration based on already-granted funds to that clinic. If a veterinarian owns multiple clinics, they may submit one application per clinic.
• Individuals must not have previously received reimbursement from the FVMA Foundation for the same disaster or be the recipient of a grant from another organization for the same disaster.
• We do not fund:
  • Non-essential items like appliances, home theater equipment, and landscaping
  • Salaries
  • Items already covered by insurance
