Dana N. Zimmel was named permanent dean of the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine after having served as the interim since December 2019.
As the first woman to hold the position, Dr. Zimmel takes over a veterinary college ranked 9th in the country.
She brings with her leadership experience at the college just as it entered the tumultuous COVID-19 pandemic, as well as years of teaching as a clinical professor in the college’s department of large animal clinical sciences. She was the first chief of staff of the UF Veterinary Hospitals, starting in 2010, and has garnered a vast number of accolades on the way.
We are excited to have someone of such prestige to continue to lead such a strong program and the future of veterinary medicine.
